Bond ETFs have the general characteristics of their equity counterparts, and combine the qualities of both individual bonds and bond mutual funds. They represent an efficient way to diversify risk. This study 1) describes the current fixed income ETF landscape, 2) explains why there have been so few fixed-income ETFs to date, and 3) highlights a few trading strategies based on the yield properties of fixed income ETFs.
