Abstract
Regardless of whether you are an investor in a long-only, buy-and-hold, fundamental investment strategy, a long/short, high-frequency, quantitative hedge fund, or any variation thereof, transaction costs can have a significant impact on returns. It is not only the magnitude of the transaction costs that differs across strategies, but also the source of the costs and the mechanisms available to stave off unnecessary expenses and slippage.
